There is a lot of interesting work behind these beautiful finished bronze sculptures.  Here is a picture essay on the casting of a bronze form.

A model is made of wax.  It is delicate, and suspended by wires and other supports.

A face coat is applied.

An investment mold is made to contain the plaster.

The mold is lowered into a burnout kiln to vaporize the wax.

A cheerful crew removes the mold after the wax is burned away.

The molten bronze is poured into the mold.

The bonze figures need extensive cleaning and preparation after the plaster mold is broken away.
